Goldsmiths, University of London

Introduction

Goldsmiths is internationally known for creativity and innovation – a reputation backed up by the highest academic standards, and nearly a century’s membership of the University of London. We are located in New Cross, South East London, which has excellent transport connections to the heart of the capital (Central London is just 15 minutes away by train).

We have over 8,000 students taking part in our undergraduate, postgraduate and adult education study opportunities, which cover subjects including the arts, social sciences, and humanities. Goldsmiths is all about the freedom to experiment, to think differently, to be an individual. That’s why our list of former students includes names like Antony Gormley, Julian Clary, Damien Hirst, Mary Quant, Bridget Riley, Vivienne Westwood, Graham Coxon, and Malcolm McLaren.

What’s on offer

We bring creative and unconventional approaches to all of our subjects. Studying at Goldsmiths will give you the chance to develop your individuality, to look beyond preconceived ideas, and to explore creative and radical approaches to your subject.

With almost everything together on one site, there’s a strong campus feel to life here: we’re big enough to offer some fantastic facilities, but not so big that things seem impersonal and unfriendly. The active social scene means that there’s always a variety of events going on, from student performances, concerts and exhibitions to entertainment in the Students’ Union.

A distinctive postgraduate ethos

Goldsmiths supports collaborations in a dazzling array of permutations: psychologists work with computer scientists, artists with cultural theorists, and musicians with anthropologists. The result is ground-breaking, challenging research that puts Goldsmiths at the forefront of developments in fields like creativity, culture, and digital technologies. It also means that there is a buzz of excitement throughout the whole postgraduate community. As a postgraduate student here you’ll be stretched academically, and encouraged to look beyond traditional boundaries to gain insights from other disciplines. You’ll be working in departments with supportive and open-minded research cultures, where your own ventures will be enriched by our embracing ethos.
